Miles of hiking and biking trails and shorefront for exploring, boating, and kayaking; stargazing, fine dining; antiquing; bird watching; scuba diving; cross-country skiing. Visit the Wendell Gilley Museum of Bird Carving or the Seal Cove Auto Museum. Narrated nature cruises from Bass Harbor; 1/2 mile from the local convenience store; and 1/2 mile from the Post Office, seasonal restaurants, and gift shops in Bass Harbor Village. Brisk salt-water swimming at Back Beach in Bernard (1 mile away) and before Thurston’s Lobster Pound. All of the essentials are available in Southwest Harbor Village (3 miles away) including groceries, clothing and hardware, antiquing, restaurants, bakery, banking, library, gift shops, bike and kayak rental and deep sea fishing. Fresh-water swimming at Echo Lake's sandy beach, with lifeguards and bathrooms (8 miles). Carriage Paths for biking (20 minutes away) and whale watches from Bar Harbor, about 1/2 hour (18 miles).
